The Railway Train

The Railway Train

I like to see it lap the miles,
And lick the valleys up,
And stop to feed itself at tanks;
And then, prodigious, step

Around a pile of mountains,
And, supercilious, peer
In shanties by the sides of roads;
And then a quarry pare

To fit its sides, and crawl between,
Complaining all the while
In horrid, hooting stanza;
Then chase itself down hill

And neigh like Boanerges;
Then, punctual as a star,
Stop -- docile and omnipotent --
At its own stable door.

Emily Dickinson

  7. I like that effect on the old engine. Those old locomotives had a romance about them that the new ones have lost.

  13. The image sure has a vintage look to it. I wonder what it was like taking photos back in those days. How did they photograph a moving train? Did they have shutter control back then? Probably not, this train must have been sitting still for the photo. Hmmm... I answer my own questions all the time. At least I get the type of answer I'm after when I do that.
